Brush fire damages Slatington house

Several properties were damaged after a wildfire spread Thursday in Slatington.

The fire was reported around noon along Diamond Street, according to the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Bureau of Forestry. No injuries were reported, and the fire affected just 0.38 of an acre, according to Assistant Forest Manager Rick Deppen."The fire came from a wooded area toward the house," Deppen said. "The wind was out of the west (and) pushed the fire into the house."He said that while no structures were lost, damage was done to siding, a pool, landscaping shrubbery, a bike, a wagon, and a cab to a pickup truck.Deppen said the incident remains under investigation as insurance companies continue to look into the matter."I think we need to be mindful of the risk that's involved in any time when you're using fire," he said. "You gotta be aware of the risks."
