Palmerton OKs admin, staff raises

Palmerton Area School District's board of directors approved five contracts Tuesday night including new deals for its support staff, administrative team, and three confidential secretaries.

According to a synopsis provided by the district, the contract with the Palmerton Area Educational Support Professionals' Association calls for wage increases of 3 percent each year, for a total of 12 percent, from the 2017-18 school year through 2020-21.It also includes a medical insurance freeze on premium share, deductibles and/or copays.The Act 93 agreement, which covers administrators, features a 7.75 percent wage increase over four years for "group one administrators," 8 percent over four years for "group two administrators" and 6 percent over four years for "group three" administrators.Medical insurance increased the premium share to $32.50 for single coverage, $44.50 for employee and spouse/parent and child and $55 for family coverage.Three other contracts approved Tuesday cover the superintendent's secretary, business manager's secretary and the Pennsylvania Information Management System administrative secretary.All three secretaries will see a 11.75 percent wage increase over four years.The contracts also restore an unused accumulated sick leave provision as it applies to securing additional medical insurance and restores lost holidays on the Monday after Thanksgiving, day before or after Christmas, day before or after New Year's Day, and Easter Monday.
