Kidder chief wants water tower near compressor station

Lake Harmony Fire Chief Ralph Lennon asked the supervisors last week about the status of requiring a water tower as part of any plan for a compressor station as part of the PennEast Pipe Line project.

The pipeline, which will pass through Kidder Township if approved, is expected to construct a compressor station within the township. The compressor would be located in the industrial area situated between Routes 940 and 80, with access off Route 940."I recall that PennEast didn't have a problem with providing a water tower, but I wanted to make sure that it is a requirement in the plans," Lennon said. "We all know that with the Blakeslee Inn fire we were going as far as Nick's Lake House to draw water off the dry hydrant. Bringing in a water source will do the entire Route 940 corridor good."Chairman Thomas Bradley assured Lennon that the final plans would have to be approved by the board of supervisors and that Lennon's concerns would be addressed, even if it meant requiring a retention pond for stormwater runoff. Lennon added that he did not believe that such a retention pond would be an adequate solution to the potential problem. The township also approved a bid for repaving the township building parking lot in the amount of $60,386.50. The contract was awarded to Bruce George Paving and Excavating.Lennon also took the opportunity to single out township laborer, Pete Lambert for contacting Penn Dot to obtain millings to lay down on the Route 80 emergency access lane. The millings will keep the road in usable condition for the township emergency services vehicles that utilize the path to access Route 80 for emergencies.
