NL will renovate high school auditorium

Northern Lehigh School District will spend over $137,000 for its high school auditorium and stage renovations.

The school board last week awarded a bid for the high school auditorium and stage renovations to Center Stage Lighting & Rigging Inc., at a cost of $137,100, upon review and approval of specs, bids and proposals by the district solicitor.The district will also spend $146,000 for a K-5 English Language Arts curriculum.The school board oapproved the purchase of Wonders 2017: McGraw Hill.In other financial matters, the board appointed School District's Insurance Consortium as the district's Workers' Compensation carrier for the 2017-18 school year at an estimated premium of $73,967, which is a reduction of about $5,152, as the final cost is based on actual payroll figures.The board awarded insurance coverage for the 2017-18 school year to the following companies: Commercial Package and Automobile, Graphic Arts National Insurance Company, $81,974, a $2,898 increase over last year's rate; Commercial Umbrella Liability Insurance, North River Insurance Company, $17,991, a $143 increase over last year's rate; and School Leaders Error and Omissions Liability, National Union Fire Insurance Company, $29,712, a decrease of $886 over last year's rates.Upon final approval of the general fund 2017-18 budget, approved the lease from California First Leasing Corporation for $61,000 per year with a lease term of 36 months and a $1 buyout option at the end of the lease agreement. The lease will be used to purchase Chromebooks and charging stations for Slatington Elementary School, laptops for the Slatington Elementary and Northern Lehigh High School faculty, and 10 replacement interactive projectors for the high school and a replacement projector for the middle school auditorium.
