Hometown AutoZone plans advance

The next step for an AutoZone to be located by the Walmart in Hometown has been met with approval.

On a 2-0 vote, Rush Township's board of supervisors on Thursday authorized board Chairman Shawn Gilbert to execute the land development improvements and maintenance agreement between AutoZone Development LLC and the board.Supervisor Jeaninne Motroni was absent.Last month, supervisors conditionally approved the AutoZone land development plan to be located by Walmart.Other businessThe board also:• Accepted Lance Frantz's resignation from the road department, as of May 22.• Accepted Christopher Conarty's resignation as a part-time police officer, as of May 25.• Accepted Joseph David's resignation as a part-time police officer, as of June 11.• Hired Lonnie Ahner for the road department, retroactive to June 12, at a pay rate of $16 an hour.• Hired Ronald Neifert for the road department, starting June 26, at a pay rate of $16 an hour.• Approved the Hometown Fire Police to assist Tamaqua Borough with its Rubber Duck Race from 1-4 p.m. Sunday on Elm Street.• Announced that the township office will be closedJuly 4. Monday's garbage pickup will be its regular pickup. However, that Friday's garbage pickup will beJuly 8.
