Schuylkill County commissioners award demolition bids

A Northumberland County company will demolish a dilapidated Coaldale building for $37,690.

Schuylkill County commissioners on Wednesday awarded the job to Northeast Industrial Services, Shamokin.The company submitted the lowest bid for job.Other demolition projects also were awarded to the lowest bidders.• 1 W. Ogden St., Girardville: Affordable C&D of Coal Township, $15,240.• 136-138 W. Ogden St., Girardville: AMC Enterprise of Frackville, $13,849.• 25 S. John St., Girardville: Affordable C&D, $14,400.• 51 S. Lehigh St., Frackville: ADM Logistics of Port Carbon, $42,299.• 60/62 N. Lehigh St., Frackville: ADM Logistics, $46,599.• 142 E. Grand Ave., Tower City: Affordable C&D, $64,480.The buildings are being demolished using a $1.4 million state grant the county received in January.In other matters, commissioners proclaimed June 15 as "Dump the Pump Day."The proclamation is geared toward encouraging more people to save gas by using the Schuylkill Transportation System buses instead of driving their own cars.People can ride the county system's fixed route for free on that day.STS Marketing and Service Support Coordinator Joan Breslin accepted the proclamation.She said there are 2,200 bus stops in the county.For information about the routes, call 570-429-2701 or visit

Halcovage also mentioned a fourth, Hazleton, which includes Kline Township and McAdoo.Two members of each team and their coaches attended the meeting.Commissioners presented them with a banner that read "Schuylkill Pride."
