Tamaqua school district awards various contracts

Tamaqua Area School Board this month has awarded a three-year contract to Tamaqua Transfer and Recycling Inc., for a of $34,500, effective Aug. 1, through June 30, 2020.

The board also:• Approved the agreement with the Schuylkill Intermediate Unit No. 29 for an Individuals with Disabilities Education Act allocation of $418,368.• Approval for S.J. Thomas Inc. for the West Penn excavation, loading dock and asphalt, for not more than $106,372.Contracts• Established the school uniform stipend for the 2017-18 school year at $25 per student.• Approved the Articles of Agreement for the establishment and operation of the Schuylkill County Area Vocational-Technical School, originally dated Aug. 11, 1983, amended Aug. 11, 1983, and further amended Nov. 1, 2004, be further amended to add Article III.• Approved the request of Matt Hope of Tamaqua, for permission to use the triangular piece of property on Stadium Hill.• Approved the contract with CMS Medical Care for dental exams at a cost of $12 per exam.• Approved the contract with PA Treatment and Healing for educational services.• Approved the contract with The Meadows Psychiatric Center for educational services for the 2017-18 school year.• Approved agreements with Child and Family Support Services Inc., for the provision of the Student Assistant Program, individual Elementary Student Assistance Assessment, and outpatient services for senior high and middle school students.• Approved the Tamaqua Area Booster Board to apply for the 2017-18 Small Games of Chance license.Personnel approved• Resignations of Michael Luna, middle school teacher, and Rebecca Luna, elementary special education teacher, effective Aug. 7.• Celeste Franko, full-time paraprofessional, to be added to the substitute paraprofessional list.• Stephanie Metters, part-time paraprofessional, to full-time paraprofessional.• Mary Hankey, part-time paraprofessional, to full-time paraprofessional.• Resignation of Emma Whelski, part-time paraprofessional, effective immediately.• Rate increase, reclassification of Michael Kunkel, from custodian to maintenance, at a 50-cents per hour increase.• Ray Kunkel, grounds and activity lead, additional .40-cents per hour.• Andrew Smarr Jr., utility lead, additional .40-cents per hour.Donations• Authorized the following donations: Eastern Schuylkill Recreation Commission ($2,500), and Tamaqua Public Library ($3,500).• Approved signs from local businesses that will be hung at the tennis courts to generate funds for the support of the tennis team.
