Flag football game will help booster club, Gower family

While the fall season is weeks away, fans can still get a football fix when the Lehighton Area Police Departments take on the Lehighton Athletic Booster Club in the second annual Police vs. Coaches flag football game at the Baer Memorial Park this coming Sunday at 5 p.m.

"We want to show the kids that the police and their coaches can work together, and it's more interaction between the police and the community," Mahoning Township Police Department officer Tyler Meek said.Admission for the event is free, and proceeds from the concession stand, 50/50 raffle, and basket raffle will be donated to the LABC. The LABC Cheerleaders will be putting on the half-time performance, and there will be a Meet the Tribe event for kids participating in the booster club's football and cheerleading teams."We're trying to do the best we can for the kids in the area, to keep the program running," LABC Vice President Jason Muffley said. "It's also good for the kids to see that they police are here to help them."There will also be a bake sale, with proceeds benefiting the Gower family, who recently lost their daughter and home in a tragic fire."Our cheerleading director, Steph Halderman, came up with that idea, to do a bake sale to benefit the little girl's family," Muffley said. Both teams have said that despite a lack of practice thus far, both sides are going to be bringing their A-game."It should be a good game," Muffley said. "We're going to avenge our loss from last year."
