Planning is well underway for the first ever Carbon County Cabbage Festival hosted in Weatherly.

The inaugural event will take place from noon to 6 p.m. Oct. 14 at Weatherly's Eurana Park, rain or shine.The festival's organizers have already announced several events, but there is still a need for vendors and volunteers.The event will include live music, contests and activities for kids.A tractor and car parade will kick off the event, starting from the Tung-Sol property at Plane and West Main streets. Musician Damien Dylan was the first act announced.Contests will be numerous. Visitors can participate in a halushki cooking contest, a scarecrow decorating contest, a tractor show benefiting Second Harvest of Carbon County and a "cabbage Olympics" with details to be announced.Weatherly Borough Council recently approved a request for a beer garden that will be set up throughout the day.The logo for the festival was designed by Weatherly-based artist Les Sincavage.The event is being presented by the Carbon Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development.The Chamber is still looking for sponsors and vendors for the festival.Volunteers are also needed to help plan the events and help out the day of the festival.Anyone interested in being a volunteer, sponsor or vendor can contact Alice at 484-274-2080, or
