Facelift after 120 years

Tamaqua borough and state officials and local police gathered 2 p.m. Thursday for a ribbon cutting at the reopened East Broad Street bridge over the Little Schuylkill River. A 16-month restoration salvaged all of the original stone arches. The bridge is believed to have been constructed about 1894. Earlier reports had stated 1904 as date of build but early maps and lithographs show the triple stone arch bridge in place in the 1890s.
