Franklin eliminated

NAZARETH - Although the day was Tuesday, it was the same story for the Franklin Township 8-10 all-stars as it was on Monday.

Franklin could not capitalize with runners on base.Stroudsburg took advantage of its offensive opportunities and bounced Franklin from the Section 6 Little League tournament at Lower Nazareth on Tuesday, 13-5."The same thing that was going on yesterday was happening today," said Franklin head coach J.C. Dietz. "We had the runners on base; we just couldn't get the run across. It was a long game, we had runners on each inning, we just didn't hit with them in scoring position."Stroudsburg posted six runs in the top of the second through a quick rain shower while play continued. After a pair of infield errors that led to extra outs, Stroudsburg found multiple ways to score. Connor Litts walked and a run scored. Next, Anthony Knight was plunked and another run crossed the plate. Alex Pacitti scored on a wild pitch; and Ethan Dudsak reached on another error, which scored a run, before, John Gizzo grounded into a fielder's choice, as Stroudsburg's sixth run crossed home plate."Honestly, yesterday (Monday), it was just one of those days," said Stroudsburg head coach Todd Litts, referring to Monday's 6-4 loss. Through districts, we've probably averaged 15 runs-per-game. Yesterday was kind of a shock to the kids."Franklin didn't give up despite the early deficit. Dietz's team stormed back in the bottom of the frame with a five-spot on the scoreboard. With the bases loaded, John Light hit a moonshot to left, which was misplayed by the Stroudsburg left fielder and the bags were cleared. Dylan Greene added an RBI single and then Mike Gelatko reached on an error to score a run. However, Gelatko's run-scoring sequence that plated Greene would be the last time Franklin scored this season."That is what it's about," Dietz said. "You don't give up. We battled back. But the difference again, we didn't hit with runners in scoring position. They did and we didn't."After Brian Kitchell played damage control on the mound for Stroudsburg in the second, he settled in and blanked FT in the third. He would hand the ball off to a combination of Pacitti, Litts, and Austin Herman, who collectively closed the door and shut out Franklin through the rest of the game."The kids hit the ball and we have a lot of pitching," said coach Litts. "We were able to work that and keep the pitch count down. It's tough-the strategy. Luckily, we have two of our aces still left. As long as we keep the bats going, we got the defense and pitching. I'm proud of the kids. They came back today and they didn't get down."Franklin trailed by eight entering the final inning, but it didn't go down without one last stand. However, the game ended with the bags full of FT all-stars, which illustrated the team's Achilles' heel the past two contests."In sports, all good things come to an end," Dietz said. "However, they are District 18 champions. The memories that these kids have given me, the parents, and the community are for a lifetime. You look at this and you're sad, but you have to realize that just to get here is amazing."SO MANY CHANGES … Both teams combined to use 10 pitchers in the game. "The biggest stress as a manger is the pitching," said the Franklin coach. "There's no doubt about it. We used our top pitcher (the other day), we didn't have him. I have some kids that can pitch, but it's always hard deciding how many innings you want them to pitch, and so on. But they (Stroudsburg) were doing the same thing."IT'S A BIRD, IT'S A PLANE … It's Kitchell!
