EAGLE WATCHING

T hirty years ago Pennsylvania had only three bald eagle nests in the entire state. According to the Pennsylvania Game Commission there are now more than 250 active nests in the state, with at least two in our local area.

A nest has been spotted in the Glen Onoko area of the Lehigh Gorge State Park, and also in Franklin Township near Beltzville Lake.Two immature bald eagles were hanging out near the Franklin nest a couple of weeks ago. Amateur birdwatchers in the area have also seen mature eagles in the area of the nest.
