Six first-time offenders in the criminal justice system were placed in Carbon County’s Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program last week by Judge Steven R. Serfass.

If a person successfully completes all conditions of the program, their record will be wiped clean. However, if they fail to complete it, or are revoked from it, then they would face trial on all pending charges. A person does not admit guilt in entering the program.All were placed for a year, unless otherwise noted.Aaron Clark Bittenbender, 19, of Parryville, was placed on a charge of driving under the influence. He was arrested on Nov. 25, 2016, along Iron Street in Lehighton by state police at Lehighton. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.He was assessed $600 for the cost of the program and ordered to render 50 hours of community service, and his license was suspended for 90 days.Brandon Kenneth Braren, 24, of Danielsville, was placed on a DUI charge. He was arrested on Dec. 3, 2016, along Fireline Road in Bowmanstown by state police at Lehighton. A test revealed a 0.23 BAC.He was assessed $550, ordered to render 50 hours of community service and his license was suspended for 60 days.Jennifer Marray, 48, of Monroe, New York, was placed for six months on a charge of possession of a small amount of marijuana. She was arrested on Jan. 13 along Bowmans Road in Penn Forest Township by state police at Fern Ridge.She was assessed $450, ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendations for treatment and render 25 hours of community service.Thaddeus Ryan Pitts, 27, of Lehighton, was placed on a DUI charge. He was arrested on Aug. 28, 2016, along Trachsville Hill Road in Towamensing Township by state police at Lehighton. A test revealed a 0.11 BAC.He was assessed $500, ordered to render 50 hours of community service and his license was suspended for 30 days.Austin Kevin Sodl, 20, of Slatington, was placed on a DUI charge. He was arrested on Nov. 23, 2016, by state police at Lehighton along Indian Hill Road in Franklin Township. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.He was assessed $600, ordered to render 50 hours of community service and his license was suspended for 90 days.Sidney Michael Tanouye, 24, of Kingston, Luzerne County, was placed on a DUI charge. He was arrested on April 17, 2016, along Route 940 in White Haven by Kidder Township police. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.He was assessed $600 and ordered to render 50 hours of community service and his license was suspended for 60 days.Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000, a $50 per month supervision fee while in the program and those charged with DUI, follow any recommendations of their drug and alcohol evaluation.
