Veterans outreach programs

A mobile veterans outreach van is coming to Carbon County to help area veterans.

Jean Papay, a member of state Rep. Doyle Heffley's staff, announced during the Carbon County Interagency and Family Collaborative Board meeting on Wednesday that the mobile outreach van will be making a stop in Carbon County on Tuesday.The van will be available to area veterans from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lehighton American Legion, 381 Bridge St., Lehighton.She said the van provides counseling to veterans who are in need of help with services.Heffley also has a number of events planned in the coming months.• U.S. Congressman Lou Barletta will have outreach hours at Heffley's Albrightsville district office from 10 a.m. to noonTuesday. The office, located at 2681 Route 903, Unit 3, will be open to anyone with questions about programs through the federal government. p.m.Thursday in Heffley's Lehighton district office, 110 N. Third St., second floor. The event is open to any veteran looking for assistance regarding benefits and other programs available to them. There will be more than 30 vendors at this free event.• A hunter education course will also be held in conjunction with the expo.
