SCHUYLKILL POLICE INCIDENTS

Pennsylvania state police report the following incidents:

• A Schuylkill County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence following an incident at 8:49 p.m. on Jan. 13 along Route 4033 in Nuremberg, North Union Township.State police at Frackville said troopers stopped Frederick C. Wilcox Jr., 37, of Ringtown. At the stop he showed signs of intoxication. He submitted to a breath test at the barracks and was over the legal limit. Charges will be filed.• A vehicle left a snow-covered Schuylkill County road on Saturday afternoon and crashed into a tree.State police at Schuylkill Haven said Jennifer L. Roote, 26, of Plymouth, Luzerne County, was northbound on Route 61 in West Brunswick Township about 3:30 p.m. when she lost control with her vehicle beginning to slid.The vehicle spun about two or three times before striking the guide rail and traveling down an embankment and coming to rest against a tree.One of Roote's two passengers, Leona Roote, 47, of Kingston, sustained a minor injury but did not require immediate medical attention. No one else was injured. The vehicle was towed. Troopers cited Roote for the crash.• Two people have been cited for issuing bad checks to a Schuylkill County business.State police at Schuylkill Haven said Kevin Wagner, 48, of Hamburg, issued a bad check on Nov. 5, 2016, to Ken's Tire Inc., Route 61, North Manheim Township. On June 15, 2016, Heather Leigh Winslow, 34, of Pottsville, issued a bad check to the same firm.In both cases the two were given the opportunity to make good on the checks but did not. Charges were filed.• A Schuylkill County man was jailed on Wednesday after fleeing police on a motorcycle, then on foot.State police at Schuykill Haven said the incident began about 9:48 p.m. when Brandon Marvin Merwine, 31, of Tremont, operating a motorcycle along Main Street in Porter Township, outside Tremont, failed to stop for troopers. He drove at a high rate of speed in an attempt to elude troopers. He then crashed his bike and ran. He was caught and struggled with the officers.Merwine had several outstanding warrants for his arrest issued out of Schuylkill County. He was placed in the county prison on the warrants.Troopers charged him with driving under the influence, fleeing and eluding police and related counts incident to the pursuit.
