Consolidate Carbon County school administration offices

Attention, Carbon County residents. We cannot wait for our Pennsylvania Legislative representatives/employees to act on our behalf and consolidate the 500 school district administration offices.

Our local school board members continue to ignore potential savings and throw away huge amounts of precious monies on duplication of personnel and facilities at our five Carbon County School District Administration Offices. Each school district superintendent costs each school district approximately $200,000 annually, (this figure includes the 33 percent of their gross annual salary that the district contributes to their pension benefit and also their benefit package). This is only one of many identical policies and positions that are duplicated at each district office. These monies could be better spent in educating our students by having smaller class sizes and other measures.During my 20 years as a school director of the Jim Thorpe Area School District Board of Education I have continually advocated and proposed consolidation. However I never heard any superintendent propose consolidation of the five Carbon County School District Administration Offices even when they were retiring and their jobs were not at risk. Not a good result "we the people" got for our monies even when these savings were obvious.Again it is time to encourage our school board members into action and consolidate our five Carbon County School District administrative offices. This will be the start of something good for financing the education of our Carbon County students.Yours for better education in Carbon County,Gerald StrubingerJim Thorpe
