The Palmerton Area Education Association will strike beginning at 8 a.m. Monday morning, it announced this afternoon.

Association President Tom Smelas said the union had not received any communication from the Palmerton school board asking to meet on Sunday night.

The strike will begin outside the administration offices on Fourth Street in Palmerton, according to Smelas.

The district has notified parents that school is closed Monday.
