We will remember

Dear Sen. Toomey,

I did not vote for you in 2010. Not because you are a Republican, but because I had serious disagreement with your stances on LGBTQ rights, the ACA and fracking. There have been times when I supported legislation you proposed. In 2013, in the wake of the Sandy Hook shooting, I was proud of the stance you took in trying to pass common sense gun control and, I remember thinking that it was a brave stance for a senator from a state where gun rights are a serious hot-button issue.Again in 2016, you won re-election, and made an implicit promise to the residents of Pennsylvania to represent them in the U.S. Senate. Or so we thought. In the intervening months, thousands of your constituents have attempted to contact you and have their voices heard on issues that are very important to us. And for the most part, they have been ignored. Respectfully, Sen. Toomey, a 45-minute hastily called 'Internet' town hall is an insult to those of us who are looking for a dialogue on important issues. It has led many of us to take a hard look and accept certain truths:1. You just won re-election, have six years in your term, and don't need to respond.2. None of us have the financial resources of a Betsy DeVos or Goldman Sachs, so access to you is out of our financial reach.3. It seems you only you consider your "constituents" those who voted for you, financially supported you, or agree with you. The rest of us are left out in the cold.I will not stop voicing my opinion, as I see that as my responsibility as a resident of the commonwealth, and feel at least one of us should do our job.In the next years you might look at all this "upheaval" as just a one-off and move on. But know this; you and the people of Pennsylvania have a date: Nov. 8, 2022. You might forget about us, but we won't forget you.Sincerely,Karen GwozdzJim Thorpe
