Driver faces DUI charges after Saylorsburg crash

A 59-year-old Brodheadsville man is facing DUI charges after a two-vehicle crash at about 9:25 p.m. Feb. 5 at the intersection of Old Route 115 and Hamilton South Road in Ross Township.

State police at Lehighton said Thomas M. Cunningham, the driver of one of the vehicles, was seriously injured. He was taken to the St. Luke's University Hospital, Bethlehem, in the West End EMS ambulance.Police said the crash occurred when a 2016 Honda Civic driven by Gabriel Pastrana, 25, of Tamiment, failed to stop at a stop sign on Hamilton South Road, and drove into the path of an oncoming 2002 Audi A6 driven by Cunningham.Police said the impact occurred as the front passenger side of the Audi was struck by the front end of the Honda. The Honda spun clockwise and was redirected, facing east in the southbound lane of Old Route 115.Neither Pastrana nor his passenger, Elson D. Pastrana, 18, also of Tamiment, were injured.Both vehicles sustained heavy damages and were towed from the scene. Police said Pastrana was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol/controlled substance.
