Tamaqua man jailed after domestic incident

A domestic incident in Tamaqua onFriday involved a foot chase and ended with jail time for Joseph Nicholas Kamant, 23, of East Union Street, Tamaqua.

Police were notified of a domestic incident at Kamant's house at 2:17 a.m. after the victim called the Schuylkill County Communications Center in Pottsville. The caller was waiting outside for police when they arrived telling them Kamant threatened to kill her and struck her while she was holing a 5-month-old infant.Kamant ran out the back door and fled once he realized officers were looking for him. He was eventually caught, hiding in a yard on Elm Street, shortly after 4 a.m. After being placed in a squad car, Kamant began yelling and banging his head off the cage in the car. He stopped when told his actions were all being caught on camera.He was arraigned before District Judge Stephen Bayer, of Tamaqua, on charges of making terroristic threats, endangering the welfare of a child and harassment. Bail was set at $5,000 cash, which he was unable to post, landing him in the Schuylkill County Prison in Pottsville.Assisting at the scene were officers from the Coaldale Police Department.
