A hiker was seriously injured Wednesday afternoon when he fell off the trail leading to the Glen Onoko Falls.

The incident was first reported about 3:30 p.m..

Firefighters from four communities took about two hours to reach the victim and remove him to safety.

According to scanner reports, the man was 20 years old. He fell 40 feet and was bleeding from the head, according to the scanner.

He was treated at the scene by Lehighton paramedics before being transported to a trauma center.

Rescuers were hampered in their efforts with the trail being covered with ice, snow and fallen trees.
