Kidder recognizes emergency service members

For several years, Kidder Township has been recognizing members of its emergency services for their outstanding performances, dedication and volunteerism.

This year, Edward Darrow of Lake Harmony Volunteer Fire Company was awarded the title of the 2016 Kidder Township Emergency Services Person of the Year.Darrow serves as chief engineer with Lake Harmony Volunteer Fire Company where he is responsible for operation and maintenance of all firefighting apparatus. Darrow is also vice president of the board of trustees.According to his nomination, Darrow began as a volunteer firefighter in Montgomery County in 1963 and continues to volunteer over 50 years later. Darrow has been with Lake Harmony since 2011.Lake Harmony Fire Chief Ralph Lennon, who presented the award, said Darrow rarely misses a call and can be counted on to show up regardless of time, temperature or weather conditions.Also nominated for the 2016 award was Lake Harmony Rescue Squad emergency medical tech and assistant operations manager, Kerril Lanum.Lanum was nominated for her dedication to her station and her volunteerism.Lake Harmony Rescue Squad Director of Operation, Scott Wuttke in his letter nominating Lanum recounted a rescue operation in which Lanum, with the assistance of a volunteer, repeated chest compressions on a patient in cardiac arrest for over 40 minutes until the patient could be safely delivered to the hospital.Lanum had to be treated in the ER for her exhaustion and later learned that the patient had survived due to her efforts.
