Jim Thorpe Police are investigating a crash that occurred Sunday in the borough and tied up traffic downtown for several hours.

Police were dispatched around 1:15 p.m. to the area of 5 Lehigh Ave. (Route 209).Upon investigation, police learned that a vehicle driven by Flora Stenberg of Penn Forest Township was traveling north on Route 209 when she struck the rear of a vehicle driven by Lisa Smulligan of Jim Thorpe.After striking Smulligan's vehicle, Stenberg's vehicle crossed over the southbound lane of Route 209, jumped the curb and struck a utility pole before coming to rest near the railroad tracks below the road.Stenberg was transported by ambulance to Gnaden Huetten Hospital, Lehighton, for injuries she sustained as a result of the crash. Smulligan was not injured.Stenberg's vehicle was towed from the scene.Police are still investigating the crash.
