Weatherly school board appointed a new business manager at its meeting last week.

Peter Bard was appointed as new business manager/board secretary with a one-year agreement at a salary of $57,000.Bard will replace David Marsiglio, who resigned from the position in April. If the money goes away, so will the grant program," board member Gerard Grega said.Rachel Markovchick was appointed to the fourth grade for the school year at $43,824 while Megan Wagner was appointed to full-time Early Childhood for the same salary.Ryan Kately has joined the district as the elementary/middle school health and physical education teacher with a salary of $43,824.Sebastian Woolbert was hired as a half-time middle school English teacher at $21,912.Scott Zoscin was appointed as athletic director for the year along with Jake Stover for assistant boys' soccer coach. The Junior High cheerleading team will be on hiatus for the 2017-18 school year due to "not enough interest," board member Matthew vonFrisch said. The district voted to raise the substitute teacher rate from $95 per day to $105."There's a shortage of subs to begin with," said board Vice President Amy Potsko."We were low compared to other Carbon County schools," member Brian O'Donnell said."We'll have trouble with subs no matter what. Raising the rate isn't going to change anything but cost us more money," Grega said. The rate raise passed 5-2 with Grega and William Knepper voting against the rate. Board President Girard Fewins was absent from the meeting. The board also passed a rate raise for cafeteria, instructional aides, office and cleaning substitutes from $7.25 to $8.25.
