Zumbathon will benefit Palmerton Cat Project

Get ready for one intense feline-fundraiser of a workout.

This Wednesday, Be Fit With Julie will host a Zumbathon fundraiser benefiting the Palmerton Cat Project at the Palmerton Sokol Hall #214 on Lehigh Ave. For $10, you get access to a special Zumba session with owner Julie Jordan, starting at 6 p.m.“This is a 90 minute class, it’s fun, dancing, and good music. People can expect a good workout and a fun time,” Jordan said. And if you love to help the kitties, but Zumba isn’t your thing, you can join in the basket raffle, or just hang out and enjoy the music. All proceeds from the Zumba-Thon will go to help the Palmerton Cat Project, as the group is in dire need of funding due to a recent rescue effort.“This one in particular is because we rescued 11 kittens that have various infections,” Palmerton Cat Project President Jessica Schuon said. Two of the kittens were missing an eye before the rescue, and five other had to have surgery due to medical issues.“This is expensive, thousands upon thousands of dollars. The two were already missing eyes needed their eye sockets cleaned and sutured, and the other five need surgery and medication,” Schuon said. The Palmerton Cat Project has also partnered with Forgotten Felines and Fidos in Germansville to help the cuddly kittens and their need for medical treatment, foster care, and adoptions.Schuon is looking forward to a good turnout to help the furry little guys and gals, and yes, she’ll be joining in the Zumba session herself.“I am totally participating,” she said. “I’ve said that I’ll be the one the one in the back dying.” Video:

Marla, one of the 11 kittens recently rescued by the Palmerton Cat Project, had to have surgery to remove her infected eye. In order to help alleviate expenses related to surgery and medicine, Be Fit With Julie will host a special Zumbathon fundraiser at the Palmerton Sokol Hall on Wednesday.
