Lehighton names assistant principal

A Lehighton Area High School English teacher is set to become the building's next assistant principal.

David Hauser was hired Monday night to the position at a salary of $72,000, effective Tuesday. Hauser replaces Jennifer Evans, who was hired last month as Lehighton Area Middle School principal.In addition to his role as a teacher, Hauser also served as high school newspaper adviser, varsity debate adviser and high school senior assembly adviser.He resigned from each of those positions Monday."We're excited to have Dave in that position and I know a lot of the teachers have also expressed excitement knowing he will be part of the administrative team at the high school," Superintendent Jonathan Cleaver said.Like Lehighton's other recent administrative hires, including Evans' move to the middle school and Sue Howland's transition from elementary to high school principal, Hauser went through a rigorous interview process."Those individuals interview in front of a committee and there is a scoring rubric involved before the recommendation comes through," Cleaver said.Board member David Krause said the district has put an emphasis over the years on "building consistency and objectivity when looking at the best candidates for a position."In other personnel moves approved Monday, Ashley Lichtenwalner was hired as head teacher at East Penn Elementary, and Lisa Failla will serve as high school Red Cross and senior assembly adviser.The board accepted resignations from Sherry Hoffman, reading specialist; Jessica Bruch, East Penn Elementary head teacher; and Jennifer Shober Steigerwalt, high school Red Cross adviser.
