Raceway arrests

Pocono Mountain Regional police reported on the following arrests made at the Pocono Raceway in Long Pond during the NASCAR race at the track July 30.

• Joseph Porter, 67, of Pinewald Lane, Burlington, New Jersey, was arrested for simple assault, disorderly conduct, harassment and public drunkenness at 7:04 p.m. Police were notified of a fight occurring in a parking lot of the racetrack. Police located Porter as the person involved. Several witnesses were interviewed and it was learned that Porter had struck a woman in the face with a closed fist. Visible injuries were observed on the woman, police said.• William Kopa Jr., 30, of Rock Street, Archbald, was arrested at 6:10 p.m. when police observed a domestic incident in the grandstands. Kopa was asked to leave the property and while being escorted off the property he attempted to push the security guards to go back to the grandstand. He was told again to leave but continued to try to get back to the grandstand. He was placed in handcuffs and cited for disorderly conduct.• Stephen Porter, 65, of Burlington, New Jersey, was cited for public drunkenness at 6 p.m. following a disturbance in the grandstands. Police responded to a grandstand area where a fight had taken place. Police found Porter to be involved in the disturbance and was intoxicated and in possession of a small amount of marijuana. He was also cited for disorderly conduct.• Nicholas Sowa, 32, of Johnson Street, Freeland, was cited for public drunkenness at 7:25 p.m. outside Gate 11. He was found to be extremely intoxicated and was being held by security personnel when officers arrived. He was taken into custody and placed in the county prison in Snydersville• On July 29 Christopher Gerenday, 52, of Bond Lane, Brodheadsville, was cited for possession of marijuana. Police said they were dispatched at 4:34 p.m. for a suspicious vehicle outside Gate 1. He was found inside a van with two other people. An odor of marijuana was detected coming from the interior of the van. A search was conducted and marijuana along with other drug paraphernalia was found.
