Tamaqua library hosts annual book sale

Books and baked goods really do go hand-in-hand.

Such will be the case when the Tamaqua Public Library holds its annual book and bake sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. The library has a large inventory of gently used and like-new books, coffee table style books, movies, puzzles and more, according to library Director Gayle Heath."All year long we collect and store donated books," Heath said. "Because we lack the space in our library, we store books off site, and each year I swear we have more books."Heath added, "We're happy that people are so generous and donating their used books to us.""It's our major fundraiser of the year," she said. "We do this annually in conjunction with the annual Tamaqua Community Yard and Sidewalk Sale to get more traffic."In addition to the book sale, Heath said there will also be a bake sale complete with cupcakes, muffins and brownies. She said funds raised from the event will go toward the library's operating budget.Heath said the library just wrapped up another successful reading program and encourages children to continue reading and doing worksheets so they can earn coupons that they can put in for a drawing on Aug. 11.For more information on the library and upcoming events, visit
