Tamaqua drug citations

Tamaqua police have released information on several drug related arrests.

• Officers received a call about possible drug activity in the area of the Little Schuylkill River in the unit block of Pine Street at 4:19 p.m. on July 21. Near the scene they found Kathy Tonkin, 22, of New Ringgold, and Joseph Cooper, 32, of Tamaqua. When Tonkin saw police, she threw a bag she had been carrying into the gutter. That bag contained an empty wax baggie stamped with the words "Gas Face." She also had a syringe in her hand. Tonkin was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and disorderly conduct. Cooper had a cigarette pack containing 3.7 grams of suspected methamphetamine in his pocket. A records check turned up an outstanding warrant issued by Carbon County officials. Cooper was charged with possession of a controlled substance and transported to the Carbon County Correctional Facility in Nesquehoning to answer to the warrant.• Cody James Deetz, 22, of Tamaqua, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after he was picked up on outstanding warrants on July 22. He had a sandwich baggie containing two syringes and three empty wax baggies stamped with the words "Gas Face" in his possession. Deetz was taken to the Schuylkill County Prison in Pottsville to answer to the warrants, which were issued by Schuylkill County detectives.• John Hindermyer, 38, of Mauch Chunk Street, Tamaqua, was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia on July 21. Police were at Hindermyer's home at 10:58 a.m., assisting agents of the Schuylkill County Adult Probation Office. Although Hindermyer wasn't home officers were given access to his basement apartment, where they found approximately 100 empty baggies, syringes and a half-cut straw.
