Hazleton man assaults Carbon, Luzerne teens

A Hazleton man accused of sexually assaulting teenage girls he met on Facebook and Snapchat was in court Wednesday, facing charges in regard to two of his alleged victims.

Keefer McKenzie Ngirngesechei, 21, appeared before a magisterial district judge to determine whether there was enough evidence to take the charges to trial.Police also filed child pornography charges in connection with another victim.Ngirngesechei is believed to have solicited nude pictures from as many as six teenagers in the Luzerne and Carbon areas.In some of the cases, he allegedly used the photos to compel the victims to have sex with him.He faces dozens of felony charges, a lengthy jail term, as well as lifetime registration as a sex offender in connection with the cases.On Wednesday, Ngirngesechei's attorney agreed to waive preliminary hearings in two of the cases, paving the way for the charges to go to trial.Prosecutors also withdrew several charges.Clad in a yellow jumpsuit from Luzerne County Correctional Facility, Ngirngesechei did not speak during the hearing.Ngirngesechei is also facing felony charges in at least two other incidents in Luzerne County where he allegedly posed as a teenager, gained the trust of teenage girls, then got them to send him nude pictures of them.In the Banks Township case, he allegedly used the pictures to force a 15-year-old girl to perform oral sex on him.The case was initially filed in Carbon County Court, but was transferred to Luzerne.The cases are expected to be combined before the charges go to trial.Also on Wednesday, prosecutors also filed additional charges against Ngirngesechei at a district court in Hazleton.After arresting Ngirngesechei on Jan. 14, police received a warrant for his snapchat account and discovered nude photos of a 14-year-old female.Police charged him with eight counts of sexual abuse of children.Ngirngesechei has been locked up since January 14 in lieu of bail. Between the four cases, his bail is more than $200,000.
