Nature center hosts star night

The Carbon County Environmental Education Center will hold a stargazing program at 8 p.m. Saturday.

"Earth Day Star Night" will be presented by Penn State Biology Professor Dr. Carl Frankel.The program will include a brief indoor introduction, followed by an outdoor session to locate spring constellations. The event coincides with the Lyrid meteor shower, when up to 20 meteors per hour may be visible.A raindate is scheduled for April 23, and registered participants will be notified of date change due to weather. Participants should bring binoculars if possible, and dress for the outdoors. Tea and hot chocolate will be available afterward.CCEEC members are invited free, and a nominal donation is requested of non-members. Pre-registration is required, and can be done by calling 570-645-8597.CCEEC is located at the west end of Mauch Chunk Lake Park, just outside Jim Thorpe, along the Lentz Trail Highway.
