Franklin OKs suit against property

A civil suit may be filed against a Franklin Township property owner in an effort to get her to clear it of debris.

The township supervisors at their meeting Tuesday authorized a civil suit against Theresa Berger and the property at 1345 Main Road in a situation that has existed for more than a year.Last June, the supervisors instructed their zoning officer, Carl Faust, to take action to have the property owner clean up the site.The supervisors authorized the suit proceed due to "public nuisance, Uniform Construction Code violations, and other applicable causes of action."In other business:• The supervisors agreed to advertise for various types of road material for summer road projects. The bids for the materials will be opened at the May 16 meeting of the supervisors.• Brenda Neeb, secretary-treasurer, issued a reminder that a driveway permit must be obtained if paving an existing driveway or repaving a driveway. She said there is no charge for the driveway permit.• Jason Doll was appointed right-to-know officer for the Franklin Township Police Department. The appointment comes as the result of the retirement of Chief of Police Thomas Beltz effective April 1. Beltz had been the right-to-know officer.• Supervisor Robin Cressley was appointed to the Agricultural Security Board.• Neeb was named to the Carbon County Tax Collection Committee for the remainder of 2017. Christine Green was named alternate representative to the committee.• The Franklin Township Fire Police were granted permission to assist with traffic control at the Franklin Township Elementary School Spring Concert. The concert begins at 1:30
