State police at the Lehighton barracks said a 35-year-old homeless man was caught after assaulting and attempting to rob a 77-year-old Kresgeville man during an altercation that took place around 10:15 a.m. Friday in Towamensing Township.

Police said the incident happened on the 10000 Interchange Road. The homeless man was inside the victim’s garage and attacked him when he entered the premises.

Police said the accused struck the victim in the head with a piece of wood and the two began fighting, ending up on the ground. Police said the assailant demanded money from the victim.

The man broke free and ran off. He was located and taken into custody after a brief chase.

Police said he will be charged accordingly.
