NWS issues Flood Advisory and Flood Watch

The National Weather Service issued a Flood Advisory for the area until 7 p.m. Thursday, with a Flood Watch in effect until 1 a.m. Friday. According to the NWS, areas including Lehighton and Palmerton could experience flooding.

"A Flood Advisory means river or stream flows are elevated, or ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent," the Flood Watch statement read.

In the afternoon, the NWS released an updated statement, indicating that moderate rainfall was still affecting advisory areas, and that up to two inches of precipitation could be expected, along with low level and poor drainage flooding.

Carbon, Monroe, and Lehigh counties were included in the advisory for minor flooding.

Initial rainfall totals were scaled back from early estimates of three inches, down to one inch of widespread rainfall with isolated incidents of two inches.

"Still, this will be the third rainfall event in the last week. The ground remains wet, and rivers and streams continue to run high," the NWS statement read.

Showers and thunderstorms were prevalent throughout Thursday, along with eastern winds of about 15 miles per hour, with guest up to 25 miles per hour. As of Thursday afternoon, the NWS is calling for a 50 percent chance of showers.
