Pocono Mountain Regional Police report

Pocono Mountain Regional Police reported on the following incidents.

• David J. Cela, 32, of Pondfield Road, Bronxville, has been charged with theft by unlawful taking; receiving stolen property; two counts of theft from a motor vehicle, and six counts of criminal attempt theft from a motor vehicle.On July 9 at 2:41 a.m. police responded to Kalahari Resort for a report of a man in the parking lot attempting to break into vehicles. Upon arrival, officers made contact with Cela. After getting a positive identification from the witness, Cela was detained. A search was conducted, which revealed various items totaling more than $2,000 in value.He was arraigned before a district judge and committed to the county prison in Snydersville in lieu of $50,000 bail.• At 1:58 a.m. on July 8 police responded to Brunswick Drive in Mount Pocono. Upon arrival officers spoke with the caller who said that there was a Hispanic man staring in her back door. The officers checked the residence and located the man hiding underneath the rear porch of the home.The man was identified as Luis Mercado, 26, of 7433 Jessamine Drive, Lakeland, Florida. He told officers that a woman had messaged him on social media that she lived at the address. He was told the woman did not live there. Mercado was taken into custody, charged with loitering, prowling at night and disorderly conduct, and arraigned before a district judge.He was committed to the county prison in Snydersville in lieu of $50,000 bail.• Police investigated a retail theft at Bill's ShopRite located in Mount Pocono. At 5:13 p.m. on July 11 Shameequa Shiter, 28, of Mount Pocono, entered the store and attempted to remove $76.26 worth of merchandise without paying for it. She was stopped by loss prevention employees and held until police arrived. She was arrested for retail theft.• Police reported that on Tuesday around 6 p.m. officers were dispatched toan Oberon Lane location in Tobyhanna for a report of a domestic assault. On scene the victim had injuries to her left knee and leg.As a result, police charged Gregory Thompson, 65, of that address, with simple assault, a misdemeanor 2; and harassment, a summary offense.
