Planning commission rejects tower plan

A proposed communications tower in Lower Towamensing Township that was previously approved in 2011 now needs more work before it could become a reality.

On Tuesday, the Carbon County Planning Commission recommended conditional plan rejection for the proposed land development at the intersection of Covered Bridge Road and Lower Smith Gap Road.The plans call for constructing a 180-foot self-supported monopole communications tower and support compound with an access road.County planner Ivan O. Meixell Jr. said that the project, which is owned by Stabler Development Corporation/Caron Associates, was before the board in May 2011 and received a conditional plan approval recommendation for the project, but the company never took action to construct the telecommunications tower, which at the time was part of the Blue Mountain Ski Area AT&T Mobility site.He outlined 51 areas under six sections in Lower Towamensing Township's Land Development Ordinance and Zoning Ordinances that needed to be corrected before the plan could receive approval.In other mattersThe planning commission made recommendations on seven proposed projects throughout the county.• Frank E. Bohinski received conditional plan approval for a proposed lot line revision at 70 Split Rock Road, Split Rock in the Poconos, Lake Harmony, Kidder Township. The plans call for combining two lots.• The Estate of James J. Knappenberger and other lands of Evelyn A. Helmer received conditional plan approval for a proposed subdivision at 351 Unionville Road in Penn Forest Township. The plans call for combining two lots.• Mais Ashirov and Hayala Pinhasov received conditional plan approval for a proposed subdivision at 180 Wylie Circle, Towamensing Trails, Penn Forest Township. The plans call for combining two lots.• Beltzville Realty LLC, Judith Bollinger, received conditional plan rejection for a proposed subdivision at the intersection of Third Street and Harvard Avenue in Palmerton. The plans call for subdividing 1.0791 acres into two lots.• Richard J. Morrissey received conditional plan approval for a proposed subdivision/lot line revision at Koch Road, Beltzville Panorama subdivision, Towamensing Township. The plans call for combining 31 lots into one 33.602-acre lot.• Darryl W. and Linda S. Fritzinger received plan approval for a proposed subdivision at 2516 Mahoning Mountain Road, East Penn Township. Plans call for subdividing a 6.854-acre lot into two lots.• Nancy J. Sheckler received conditional plan rejection for a proposed subdivision/lot line annexation at 135 Sheckler Lane, Lower Towamensing Township. The plans call for subdividing a 33.3-acre lot owned by Sheckler into three lots and then combining a newly created 15.65-acre lot with 3.74 acres owned by Jeffery D. and Diana S. Roberts; and combining the other newly created 15.63-acre lot with 2.64 acres owned by Glen A. and Kim C. Sheckler.
