West Penn considers windmill law

West Penn Township may consider the adoption of a windmill ordinance.

"Do we want green energy in the township or what," asked Supervisor Tony Prudenti during last week's board of supervisors meeting.Board Chairman Jim Dean then shared his thoughts on the topic."There is a beautiful landscape in the township," Dean said. "I personally just do not like the look of them."Resident Gary Steigerwalt appeared to take exception to Dean's remarks."It's clean energy, and you're putting the nail in the coffin," Steigerwalt said.But, Dean said that wasn't the case at all."Residential, I don't have a problem with at all, period," he said.Prudenti added, "you can't stop it; we can only control it."Other action:In other action, supervisors:• Approved the resignation of part-time police officer Doug Springer.• Hired Anthony Houser as a part-time police officer at the rate of $15 per hour, effective Sept. 13.• On a 2-0 vote, with an abstention from Dean, appointed Dean as a representative to the Eastern Schuylkill Recreation Commission.• Appointed Bill Varano as an alternate on the township's zoning hearing board.
