Carbon County court – DUI

Three defendants entered guilty pleas on Thursday in Carbon County court to charges of driving under the influence.

Judge Steven R. Serfass accepted the pleas from the following:

Jovany Baltazar

, 27, of Wilmington, North Carolina, was arrested on June 28, 2017, along Bridge Street by Lehighton police. A test revealed a 0.22 BAC.

Serfass sentenced him to serve 30 days to six months in prison, a fine of $750, one-year license suspension and render 25 hours of community service. He was given credit for two days already served.

He will begin serving the remaining 28 days on July 22 at 1 p.m.

Joseph A. Gruskin

, 30, of Lehighton, was arrested on April 16, 2018, by Lehighton police along Second Street. A test revealed a 0.13 BAC.

He was sentenced to serve five days to six months in jail, a fine of $500, one-year license suspension and render 25 hours of community service.

He will begin serving the prison term at 4 p.m. on July 5 and serve two days and July 12 and serve three days.

Christopher Jon Schnell

, 22, of Lehighton, was arrested on Jan. 25, 2018, by Lehighton police along Iron Street. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.

Sentencing was deferred so Schnell can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.

Baltazar and Gruskin each must also pay court costs of about $1,000, pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole and follow any recommendation of their drug and alcohol evaluation.
