Weatherly board appoints new principal

After starting the 2016-17 school without a high school principal, the Weatherly School Board voted in Anthony DeSpirito to supervise grades eight through 12 for the remainder of the year.

Board member Brian O'Donnell voted against the motion to appoint DeSpirito, saying, "I thought there were more qualified candidates."Board Vice President Amy Potsko and board members Gerard Grega and Brandon Pugh were not in attendance at the Wednesday night special meeting.O'Donnell said he will support the board's decision, and "looks forward to DeSpirito proving me wrong."DeSpirito's salary will be $76,000 a year.Former principal Amanda Zaremba resigned just four weeks after the school year started. Zaremba was hired in March 2016 as high school principal.At the start of summer break, the district reorganized administration roles with Thomas McLaughlin adding principal of kindergarten through second grade to his superintendent duties.Sandra Slavick was changed from elementary school principal to supervisor of special education while retaining principal responsibilities of third, fourth and fifth grades. Zaremba was slated to serve as middle and high school principal before resigning.The district educates 670 students from kindergarten to 12th grade.
