Tamaqua man facing charges after crash

Tamaqua police cited Joseph N. Kamant, 23, of Rolling Mill Avenue, Tamaqua, in connection with a hit-and-run crash on Oct. 14.

Police said Kamant was driving north on Pine Street at 7:41 a.m., in a blue Mercury, when he rear-ended a vehicle stopped for a red traffic light. Before officers could arrive, Kamant got out of the Mercury and ran between two houses in the 300 block of Pine Street. Witnesses saw him toss a silver object to the ground as he ran. The object was identified as a homemade, aluminum foil pipe, half filled with burned marijuana residue.Tracking down the Mercury's owner led to Kamant, who was then positively identified by witnesses.He was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia, hit and run, driving with a suspended license and careless driving.
