Franklin residents speak out about police

Franklin Township supervisors heard a resident's concerns about disbanding the police force at the meeting Tuesday.

Jonathan Willow voiced his concerns about talk of contracting out the police force in Franklin Township. He said he is concerned that the cost of a lawsuit would fall on the taxpayers as the Fraternal Order of Police said it is illegal and they would pursue a lawsuit if they do contract out.Another concern is the pension fund. The state pays into the pension fund for the police force and the officers pay into the fund. If the police force disbands, who is going to pay into the fund? The concern is that if there is no money going into the account, will the taxpayers now have to pay the pension fund. The supervisors assured the residents that the pension fund is efficient enough to sustain itself. They also hire actuaries to help with this. There is no concern for residents that they will have to pay into the pension fund for the police force. In other business• Garbage collection for the Veterans Day holiday is Nov. 10.• State Road is being patchedto fix the many potholes.
