Colts rout Shenandoah

HOMETOWN - There was no need to crank up the scoreboard for the home team any longer.

There was no need to add a sixth-point - it was moot at best for the team clad in blue and gold. Surely Marian had devoured Shenandoah Valley long before the final second ticked off the clock at Men of Marian Stadium Friday evening in this Schuylkill Football League Division II matchup. To be sure, there was a classy gesture from the old timer Stan Dakosty; a kneel down nine yards from the goal line with six minutes still ticking on the running clockMarian had made a statement after a quarter of play on its way to 56-14 victory over Shenandoah Valley (0-8), racking up a 28-0 lead, leading Dakosty to say afterward, "That's as close a perfect first quarter of football we've played here at Marian in a long, long time."You can bet that the Colts are hoping to play more of this type of football as they rush to the finish line with two games remaining after improving to 5-3, and salivating for a second-straight District 11, Class A gold medal, and perhaps beyond."We were focused all week," mentioned one of the senior Marian leaders, Kyle Plesh. "We weren't taking them for granted ... we have all the respect in the world for Shenandoah."That was obvious on the game's first play following the kickoff. The Colts raised the lid with a play action pass when deft quarterback Ethan Kuczynski found Aaron Adams running a skinny post in the middle of the field. Adams clutched the throw at the Devils 35-yard line and raced untouched before Jarod Paisley added the first of his five conversion kicks."You have to stay prepared for everyone," said Kuczynski after a perfect night passing (3-3, 146). He later would strike again with a 47-yarder for six more points to Seth Paluck, and scored on a zigzagging 51-yard run to make it 35-0 early in the second quarter."We thought the best way to show respect to Shenandoah is give 'em our best effort, and when you're oh-and-seven you truly love the game," mentioned Dakosty. After Adams and Kuczynski hooked up for the first touchdown, Mike Neary hit the end zone for the first of his touchdowns with a nifty 23-yard run to pay dirt, and early in the third quarter he picked off a Noah Allegretta pass and returned it 33 yards for a score."We're excited and we're turning the corner right now ... we're zeroed in right now and ready to go," said Dakosty. "Zach Falls has really been playing well (on defense) and Nick Erbe and (Matt) Stanziola, they've been very exceptional. The whole team in fact."Shenandoah Valley found the end zone right before the close of the first half when its superb do-all player Allegretta raced 71 yards for a touchdown, and passed for the two-point conversion to Johnny Chinchay to make it 42-8 at the break. And Allegretta would add the game's final touchdown on a 27-yard run."I feel for these older guys," said Shenandoah Valley coach Kevin Bolinsky. "I was in the same situation at North Schuylkill as a player ... I really feel for them. They come every single day ready to practice, all of the players."SHARING THE WEALTH... Marian used plenty of running backs with 10 different players getting touches. Paluk led the way with 71 yards on three carries. SV's Allegretta led his side with 101 yards on nine totes.GETTING IN GEAR... Dakosty knows what's at stake in the final two games against Minersville and Tamaqua. "We've got a very tough game at Minersville next Friday," he said.
