Lehighton parade honors police department

As they've shown through their actions, the Lehighton Police Department is about more than just conducting investigations and making arrests.

They are also first responders; participate in community events, programs and fundraisers; and educate the community on safety and crime prevention. Those are just examples of why the department has been chosen as grand marshal for the 46th annual Lehighton Area Halloween Parade.Judy Harris, secretary/treasurer for the committee, said the department is more than deserving to serve in that capacity."They are helpful in many ways, and we should honor them," Harris said. "They don't get enough recognition, they don't get any praise, they only get complaints, and it's time for that to stop."The department consists of Chief Brian Biechy, Sgt. Joseph Lawrence, Corporal Detective Scott Prebosnyak, and patrolmen Neal Ebbert, Michael Svetik, Matthew Bender, Robert DeFuso, Matthew Arner and Bruce Broyles. The parade will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday. The rain date is 2 p.m. Sunday. It will begin at Ninth and Coal streets, and then make its way down to the Third Street intersection, before turning south toward Mahoning Street and returning to Eighth Street, where it will disband at the Grove. The parade will be televised on Blue Ridge Cable TV-13.Registration forms are available at Carbon County Music & More, Dance with Kim, Zimmerman's Dairy, Larry Markley Insurance, Jim Thorpe National Bank's Lehighton branch, Cypress Lanes, Old Time Corner Store and Lehighton Borough Office. The parade is run totally on donations. To contribute, send donations to: Lehighton Area Halloween Parade Committee, P.O. Box 241, Lehighton, PA 18235.
