Tamaqua drug take-back night Oct. 17

Step-Up Tamaqua is sponsoring a drug take-back night from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 17 prior to its monthly meeting at Trinity United Church of Christ’s Founder Hall on the ground level of the building at 22 Lafayette St.

Area residents are invited to dispose of any unwanted drugs they may have in their homes.

A deputy from the Schuylkill County sheriff’s department will be on hand to over-see the take-back.

Area residents are invited to attend the monthly meeting of Step-Up Tamaqua, a volunteer group striving to address the drug issue in Tamaqua.

This month’s meeting theme is “A Night of HOPE.” Michael Machay, a recovering member of Safer Streets for Tamaqua’s Little Feet, will discuss his addiction’s effect on his family. Layne Hinderliter and Wayne Smith, members of Faith Church in Orwigsburg, will explain the HOPE Initative, a support program offered by their congregation for families and loved ones of addicts.

Step-Up Tamaqua is an outreach program of the Tamaqua Area Faith Fellowship Network and the Tamaqua Area Community Partnership.

Parking is available in the rear of Trinity UCC.
