Carbon Court DUI pleas

Six defendants in pending drunken driving cases entered guilty pleas to driving under the influence on Friday in Carbon County court.

President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II accepted pleas from the following:Elizabeth Ann Kent,25, of Palmerton, was arrested on March 27 along Canal Street in Franklin Township by state police at Lehighton. A blood test showed the presence of a controlled substance. It is her second offense.Nanovic sentenced her to serve 90 days to 5 years in jail, a fine of $1,500, license suspended for 18 months, pay court costs of about $1,000 and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole. She was given credit for 72 days spent in prison of the charge. She is currently an inmate in the county prison.Brett Michael Kern,32, of Bangor, was arrested on March 5 by Franklin Township police along Fairyland Road. A test revealed a 0.22 BAC.Sentencing was deferred so Kern can obtain a comprehensive drug and alcohol evaluation and also apply for placement in the county's Intermediate Punishment Program - house arrest.Gerard George Nieroda,23, of Kunkletown, was arrested on Jan. 23 by state police at Lehighton along Pohopoco Drive in Towamensing Township. A test revealed a 0.10 BAC. Sentencing was deferred so he can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.Kenneth Edward Heckman Jr., 32, of Nesquehoning, was arrested Feb. 1 by Lehighton police along Second Street. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance. Sentencing was deferred because he has another pending DUI case.Dennis Ray Elmore,54, of Palmerton, was arrested on March 16 by state police at Lehighton along Forest Inn Road in Towamensing Township. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.Sentencing was deferred so he can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.Michael Shane Sosko,39, of Kunkletown, was arrested on Sept. 5, 2015, by state police at Lehighton along Route 209 in Franklin Township. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.Sentencing was deferred so he can obtain a comprehensive drug and alcohol evaluation.
