Longtime Lansford businessman recognized

A longtime Lansford businessman and public servant was recently recognized by the town’s mayor.

Mayor James Romankow issued a proclamation recognizing Bob Silver.Silver is best known to residents as the president of Silver’s Furniture on West Ridge Street, where he hosted the annual children’s Christmas show. He semiretired and closed the shop in 2007 after 43 years, 25 as president.Silver has been dedicated to the Lansford community for much of that time, Romankow said. He has served on boards for groups like Lansford Alive!, Lansford Merchants Organization and Lansford Concerned Citizens.Silver has also served on the Carbon County Planning Commission, as a volunteer with the Lake Hauto Ambulance Corps and Fire Co., and a volunteer with the Carbon/Tamaqua unit of the American Cancer Society. He is also an Army veteran.Silver continues to own and operate an Oreck Sales and Service shop and serve with Lansford Alive, the Carbon-Schuylkill Industrial Development Corporation, and the board of the Shelter Harbor Marina in Long Beach Island, New Jersey.
