Carbon County man admits fleeing police

A Carbon County man admitted Tuesday in the county court to fleeing police at high rates of speed while driving drunk.

Ryan Patrick Mooney, 37, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count each of fleeing or attempting to elude police, as a felony two, recklessly endangering another person, driving under the influence of a controlled substance and a summary count of driving under suspension.President Judge Roger N. Nanovic accepted the pleas.Mooney was originally charged with a total of 23 counts, most motor vehicle code violations.Mooney was arrested for an incident that began on Sept. 17 in the area of Fireline Road and White Street in Bowmanstown where state police at Lehighton attempted to stop Mooney, who was operating a motorcycle, for a vehicle code violation.Mooney fled with speeds reaching 90 mph in a 35 zone.The chase continued onto Route 895, where troopers said Mooney's speed was clocked at more than 100 mph.Mooney pulled off onto Dinkey Road, where he stopped.He had a passenger on the bike, which led to the endangering charge.Nanovic deferred sentencing because Mooney must get a drug and alcohol evaluation for the DUI charge.
