Palmerton Area Library announces summer program

"On Your Mark, Get Set … READ!"

It's the theme of Palmerton Area Library's summer program this year. Once again, the library will be offering activities that are free and open to the public. All students from any school district in kindergarten through sixth grade may participate.To kick off the summer reading program, the library's Teen Group will host a Beach Bingo party from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on June 15 for kids in kindergarten through fourth grade. There will be a raffle for the parents and bingo for the kids. It is free and open to the public. Please call the library to reserve a spot, since space is limited.On June 17, the program officially launches with a special opening at 10:30 a.m. that will feature Super Science and Amazing Art for children of all ages.The Summer Reading Club for children will be offered every Friday at 10:30 a.m. from June 17 through July 29. This program will offer stories, games, puppets, crafts, special visitors and more.Preschool Circle Time for children ages 3-5 will be held at 10:30 a.m. every Thursday starting on June 16 through July 28. This program features stories, music, rhythm instruments, dancing and more.Everyone is invited to participate in the "Book Chain" contest this summer at the library from June 1 to Sept. 1. For every book read this summer, the reader can add a link to the chain and watch it grow. The more books read, the better is the chance to win fun prizes at the end of the summer. Prizes will be awarded in five age categories. Sign up to participate.Kids Art Camp will be offered at the library this summer. Call 570-778-6128 to register.Computer classes for adults will continue in June and July. There are still openings in the following classes: Social Media & Mobile Devices and the World of Google. Each class meets once a week for four weeks. Call the library to register. Anyone interested in Beginner Classes should call the library to place their name on a waiting list for the fall classes.The Palmerton Area Library Golf Tournament will be held at the Mahoning Valley Country Club on Aug. 26.A Student Art Show will be held from 1-3 p.m. Aug. 6 for students age 6 through 18. All types of art and photos will be accepted for this show sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Prizes will be awarded in two age categories. Refreshments will be provided. Please call the library at 610-826-3424 for more information on how to enter.During the month of June, the library will be open regular hours: Monday and Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. During July and August, the library will close at 1 p.m. on Saturdays.
