Palmerton student named CACPAC Good Samaritan

Touting his own accomplishments doesn’t come easy for Gavin Scott.

The Palmerton Area High School senior was short on words Sunday morning, but quick with a thank you as he accepted the 2016 Christian Action Council of Palmerton Area Churches Good Samaritan Award.Scott received the honor during a Mass held at Sacred Heart Church in Palmerton.“I’m just grateful to CACPAC, to my family, friends and Father (William) Campion here at the church,” Scott said.CACPAC, a ministry of 15 Palmerton Area churches, has handed out the honor for close to 40 years and Scott is the fourth member of Sacred Heart to receive it in Campion’s seven years at the church.“Gavin has been a server here at Sacred Heart since I started and for nine years total,” Campion said following the Mass. “We also have two youth representatives on our pastoral council and he is one of them.”Scott is also active with Family Promise and he and his family work to assist and visit homeless individuals and families in the area.He is a member of Palmerton Area High School’s Future Business Leaders of America, National Honor Society and the school’s tennis team.Campion said Scott is also working toward the rank of Eagle Scout.“He’s a great example for other youth and has given exemplary service to his community, school and church,” Campion said.
