Master Gardener plant sale Saturday

Carbon County Master Gardeners will conduct their annual plant sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Mahoning Valley Farmer's Market on Route 443 in Lehighton.

The group only sells plants that members raised themselves. There will be native flowering and nonflowering plants, annuals, perennials and heirloom tomato seedlings, unusual or less common plants or varieties, as well as some houseplants.Money from the sale will help fund master gardener community projects. This year they are hoping to raise money to buy an insect collection for "Good Bug, Bad Bug; To Swat or Not," which is a program the master gardeners do for youth groups.Upcoming master gardener events include:• June 25: During National Pollinator Week the master gardeners will be selling native plants and giving advice on pollinator gardens at the Penn State Extension office. At the Perennial Herb Demonstration Garden at the Carbon County Environmental Center, Roberta Lee Robins will be dressed as a monarch butterfly. Bring the kids to learn about raising herbs for pollinators. For more information, visit NationalPollinatorWeek.info.• Composting Campers will be scheduled for the second or third week in July at Hickory Run National Park.• Aug. 8-10 the Department of Agriculture WoodMobile will be at the Carbon County Fair. This is a wonderful mobile classroom with great information on the trees of Pennsylvania.• In September, they are starting a new gaster gardener training class.
